Handheld laser welding
Controlled heat input for joining sheet metal parts
Painopojat offers handheld laser welding as part of sheet metal product and assembly manufacture. We use a 2 kW fibre laser welding system.
The process is an option where high welding speed, limited distortion and a neat finish are important.
What is handheld laser welding?
The operator guides the welding head along the joint. The laser beam concentrates energy in a small area and melts the material being joined.
Joint preparation and process settings are selected according to the material, thickness and joint geometry.
What are the benefits?
For suitable joints, controlled heat input can reduce distortion and the need for finishing. High welding speed can improve efficiency when producing repeated seams.
The result also depends on part fit-up and the quality of the joint surfaces. Welding requirements should therefore be considered during part design and manufacture.

Is laser welding suitable for your product?
We assess suitability from your drawing, material details and joint requirements. MIG, TIG and spot welding are also available.
